The Eucharist

  • 36 Steps

About

Thus, the foundation has been set: Christ is the cornerstone, and the apostles and prophets are the living stones that form this divine structure. Now, we—the church—are being built into this spiritual house as "living stones" (1 Peter 2:5). Together, we form the earthen vessel, the visible body through which the invisible Logos will incarnate. As Paul reminds us, "we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us" (2 Corinthians 4:7). As Christ’s body and blood sanctify and fill the vessel, the Eucharist becomes the means through which the divine Logos is sealed within us, ensuring the church remains a fitting habitation for God’s presence. The Eucharist also connects us intimately to the greater body of Christ, uniting believers across time and space. By partaking in communion, we not only share in the divine life but also in the sufferings of Christ and His church. This sacred sharing fulfills the principle of supererogation, where we go beyond our individual needs, contributing to the collective spiritual ledger of the church. As Paul writes, "I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of His body, which is the church" (Colossians 1:24). Communion becomes a profound means of entering this shared journey, bearing one another’s burdens, and participating in the redemptive work of Christ.
